Back in the USA

8/19/2018 I broke camp this morning to begin my homecoming with feelings that were juxtaposed between the melancholy for my Canadian departure and the eagerness for my return to the USA. During my retreat drive I recollected the entirety of my Canadian Maritimes expedition, vis-à-vis the people I met, the history explored, the cuisine consumed and the various supplementary activities. Recalling the most notable elements of this Canadian adventure: I vastly enjoyed observing the extreme fluctuations of the Bay of Fundy tides and my study of the exceptionally significant historically artifacts in Nova Scotia and its Cape Breton. But overall there was something about Prince Edward Island that made me feel comfortable and more laid-back. It may have been the farmland, the rolling terrain or the ocean view that was always just around the corner or over the crest of that next knoll. Altogether the people in the Maritimes were most courteous and accommodating, particularly Dave Burgess and

8/09/2018 It was a long 310 mile, 6 hour drive from the Walmart in Cookville, NS to Sydney, NS on Cape Breton Island . I had been recommended to Cape Breton Island by several of Nova Scotia’s citizens. I arrived then made camp at the Mira River Provincial Park which is about 10 miles southeast of Sydney, NS and is halfway between that and the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site ; one of Canada’s foremost historic sites that I will venture to tomorrow.   8/10/2018 I drove the 16 miles to Louisbourg, NS with my objective to review the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. Originally designated a National Historic Site in 1920 about 25% of the ruins have been reconstructed beginning in the 1960’s and are still a work in progress. The Fort is a very good replica of the former installation albeit using modern tools for its reconstruction as opposed to others I have visited such as the Port-Royal National Historic Site . While on my exploration of this very i

8/01/2018 Today I explored the Raven Haven Campground and the Sandy Bottom Lake beach. I also repaired the drain in the bathroom and gave myself a haircut. I think I am overstaying at this location as I have run out of things to explore. I did make reservations at the Lake Ellenwood Provincial Park in Tusket, NS. Lake Ellenwood is less than two hours away and is close to Yarmouth, NS where there are several historical sites and buildings to investigate. I have also found near Yarmouth the Lake Doucette Motor Speedway where there is a race on Sunday that I plan on attending. 8/02/2018 I created a mental itinerary along with a plan for my remaining days in Canada. I have not found anywhere that I can boondock, which is something that I enjoy doing occasionally. Boondocking or living of grid is part of the motivation and fun of having my travel trailer so I kind of miss that. Later I drove over to Digby, NS and acquired a pound of scallops that I purchased off the scallop
